Following a story in the Mail on Sunday about the scale of the asbestos problem in the Palace of Westminster, the Daily Mail has this week launched a national campaign to end deaths from exposure to asbestos in Britain's buildings.
The Mail's campaign - "Asbestos: Britain's hidden killer" - demands:
A national database listing every non-domestic building that contains asbestos
A programme to remove the deadly substance, starting with schools and hospitals.
The Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, voiced his support for the Daily Mail’s campaign on his visit to a London ambulance service centre stating:
“Asbestos is a killer. Whatever we need to do to reduce that risk, we absolutely need to do – it’s an awful, awful killer, not just a killer, but the way in which it kills people is just dreadful.”
